dr. Maja Murnik

Maja Murnik je leta 2012 doktorirala iz filozofije in teorije vizualne kulture na Fakulteti za humanistične študije v Kopru (naslov disertacije: »Merleau-Pontyjevo razumevanje telesa«) ter diplomirala iz primerjalne književnosti na ljubljanski Filozofski fakulteti (2003) in iz dramaturgije na AGRFT (2005).

Zaposlena je bila kot asistentka na Oddelku za kulturne študije Fakultete za humanistične študije Koper (2007–2010) in kot odgovorna urednica revije Maska ter urednica založniškega programa (2011). Bila je tudi programska koordinatorka ter ena od programskih selektoric mednarodnega festivala sodobne umetnosti Break 2.3 Nove vrste (v organizaciji Zavoda K6/4, Ljubljana; 2005).

Od leta 2008 dalje je (s prekinitvijo) samozaposlena v kulturi kot kritičarka/recenzentka na področju umetnosti. Piše kritike in članke ter referate predstavlja na konferencah doma in v tujini. Leta 2009 je prejela štipendijo francoske vlade za dvomesečno študijsko bivanje v Parizu (na Université X – Paris Nanterre).

Je članica uredniških odborov revij Amfiteater in Virtual Creativity ter članica Društva gledaliških kritikov in teatrologov Slovenije ter Slovenskega društva za estetiko.

Med 2020 in 2023 je predsednica strokovne komisije za intermedijske umetnosti pri Mestni občini Ljubljana.

Je soustanoviteljica in raziskovalka Inštituta za nove medije in elektronsko literaturo v Ljubljani.

Maja Murnik holds Ph.D. in philosophy and theory of visual culture at the Faculty of Humanities Koper, University of Primorska, Slovenia (2012). She graduated in comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts (2003), and in theatre studies at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (2005), both University of Ljubljana.

She worked as Assistant teacher at the Department of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Humanities Koper (University of Primorska), and as editor-in-chief of the Slovenian bilingual journal of performing arts and new media art Maska and its book editions. She was also programme coordinator and one of programme selectors at the international festival of contemporary art Break 2.3 New Species (organized by Zavod K6/4, Ljubljana; 2005).

From 2008 onwards she works also as freelance art reviewer, publishing reviews and articles and presenting papers at conferences at home and abroad. In 2009 she received French Government’s Grant for a 2-month research in France (at Université X – Paris Nanterre).

She is a member of editorial boards of the journals Amfiteater and Virtual Creativity, as well as a member of the Association of Theatre Critics and Researchers of Slovenia and of Slovenian Society of Aesthetics.

In 2020–2023 she serves as chairman of the expert committee for intermedia arts at Municipality of Ljubljana.

She is also co-founder and researcher at the Institute of New Media Art and Electronic Literature.
